Hi,

I just thought I'd add this for those of us in Britain who are planning on entering this tournament. I'm sure everyone concerned already knows this already but just in case...

To get the PETS passport, these are the requirements:

1. The dogs must be Microchipped to start with
2. The dog must be scanned and vaccinated against Rabies - the vet records this in the passport
3. No later than 30 days after the vaccination, the dog must be re-scanned and blood sample must be taken to test for Rabies antibodies
4. If the test is positive, then the result is recorded in the passport, with the date that the blood was taken, if not, then a new vaccination must be given and a new blood test.

The dog can then re-enter the UK after 6 months has elapsed since the date the blood was taken for the successful blood test.

The passport remains valid so long as the rabies vaccination is boostered before the expiry date in the passport - this is normally 2 or 3 years.

Before returning to the UK, the dogs need to be treated for ticks and worms, and the treatment needs to be overseen (if not actually done by) a vet:

No later than 48 hours and no sooner than 24 hours before check-in for the return to the UK, the dogs need to be "prepared".

The dogs are scanned by a vet, and then given the anti-tick drug (Frontline Spot-on is fine) and Praziquantal (Drontal Plus contains this) to the correct dose. The vet then stamps. dates, times and signs the passportd to record the treatments. (Note - the time is crucial - make sure it's correct!).

At check-in at the ferry port or the Eurotunnel terminal, the dog is scanned, and the passport is checked. Providing everything is correct, in date and in time then they will let the dogs travel.

For more information, see the DEFRA web site http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/procedures/owners.htm

Hope this all makes sense to everyone -

See you there!
